Couple accuses Franke of writing bad $2,500 check
A couple has accused Murrysville Councilman Jeff Franke of writing a bad check for $2,500, but Franke said he expects the case to be resolved soon.
At the time the check was written, Franke said, he was in the process of changing banks. The settlement check got lost in the process.
"My attorneys just advised me to follow the legal process," Franke said when asked of the case on Tuesday.
Franke is accused of writing the check last October. He said the money was a settlement for a business deal through his company, Spectrum Construction and Design LLC that went bad.
Franke said he still has a relationship with the couple and because his lawyer could not attend Tuesday's hearing at Magisterial Judge Charles Conway's office, the case was waived to court. He said he expects to hear from his lawyers soon to settle the case. The following cases were handled by Magisterial Judge Charles Conway in district court last week.
Defendants who waive their right to a preliminary hearing will have a court date scheduled in the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas.
• James Lee Coudriet, 49, of 1015 Meadowview Drive in Apollo, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a charge of accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property and two traffic violations.
Charges had been filed by Murrysville police.
• Brian Keith O'Hara, 43, of 137 Black Hills Road in Plum, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and driving without registration or insurance.
Charges had been filed by Murrysville police.
