John Priatko
World War II vet

John A. Priatko Sr., 83, of North Braddock, died July 12, 2008, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1924, in North Braddock, he was the son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Pohlut) Priatko.

Before retirement, Mr. Priatko was employed as a purchasing agent by Westinghouse Corp. of East Pittsburgh and also Youngwood, where he served as a steward for many years.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, member of Holy Dormition Church, McKeesport, and Westinghouse Male Chorus and was founder of Shadylane Boys Club of North Braddock.

Surviving are his sons, John Priatko Jr. of Hempfield Township and Gordon Priatko of California; brothers, George Priatko and his wife, Lois, of Plum and William Priatko and his wife, Helen, of North Huntingdon; and sisters, Marion Campbell of North Huntingdon and Theresa Bonacci and her husband, Joseph, of Murrysville.

Friends were received at James W. Shirley Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated in Holy Dormition Church. Interment was at Monongahela Cemetery.

Esther Skander
Export resident

Esther L. Skandera, 84, of Export died July 7, 2008.

Born Aug. 19, 1923 in Export, she was the daughter of Louis and Maria Cassagrande Biesuz.

Surviving are her husband, Paul Skandera; daughters, Paulette Jackson and Denise O'Brien; grandchildren, Michael Jackson and Camille O'Brien; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends were received at the Wolfe-Von Geis Funeral Home, Inc., Export. A funeral mass was held in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Export. Interment followed in Grandview Cemetery, Export.

Katherine Johnston
Secretary

Katherine (Cline) Johnston, 89, of Murrysville, died July 12, 2008.

Born March 28, 1919, in Newlonsburg, she was the daughter of the late Brinker and Elizabeth (Hawk) Cline.

Mrs. Johnston was in the first graduating class of Franklin High School in Newlonsburg in 1937 and then graduated from Robert Morris Business College. She was a secretary for the American Automobile Insurance Company and later the Hartford Fire Insurance Co., both of Pittsburgh.

When her husband was in the Navy during World War II, she was a secretary for the Statler Hotel, Washington D.C. After his discharge, she was a secretary for the Ordinance Department of the Army, Pittsburgh.

She was also a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Murrysville.

Surviving are her daughter, Beth Graham and her husband, Jim; two grandchildren, Robert and Patricia Graham; sisters, Edith Letham and Virginia Forgie and her husband, Donald; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnston Jr.; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.

Friends were received at Hart Funeral Home Inc. Mass was celebrated in Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment followed at Twin Valley Memorial Park.

P. Edana Bondi
Founded business

P. Edana Bondi, 70, of Murrysville, died July 11, 2008, in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh.

Born July 11, 1938, in Coal Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Blair and Pearl Yanity.

Mrs. Bondi grew up in Athens, Ohio, and in 1981 was the co-founder with her husband of Bondi Printing Company in Murrysville.

She was a resident of Marco Island, Fla., for many winters and was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville.

Surviving are her husband, I. August Bondi; a son, August Bondi and his wife, Kimberly; daughter, Elizabeth Bondi Saunders and her husband, Sanford; three grandchildren; and brothers, Joseph and Robert Yanity.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends were received at Hart Funeral Home Inc. Mass was celebrated in Mother of Sorrows Church with Monsignor Richard Curci officiating. Interment followed at Murrysville Cemetery.
