Wrecked police car to be replaced

The Delmont Police Department is getting a new car after one of its vehicles was involved in an accident last month.

At last week's council meeting, Chief T.J. Klobucar said insurance would pay $7,592 toward the replacement car. A used vehicle from the University of Pittsburgh will replace the totaled vehicle.

A rental car from Day Chevrolet was used while the damaged one was replaced.

According to the report from the state police, Delmont Officer Nathaniel Ferree was driving a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria on June 27 at 4:25 p.m. on Route 66 when he attempted to make a u-turn.

Police report he drove into the path of a 1998 Chevrolet Cheyenne driven by Robert Burns of Vandergrift.

No one was injured in the accident and no charges will be filed, police said. Klobucar said the department would try and salvage any decals, lights or equipment from the old car.
