This is a great idea that should be implemented in time for next year's prom.

I'm not sure teens locked up in one place in the middle of the night is a good idea, but I could be convinced otherwise.

I don't support this idea because of the potential cost.

I always wondered why Franklin didn't have an After Prom when so many other schools do. I understand the concern about the late hours, etc, etc., but I still think it's a good idea. It will never work at Franklin though because it takes A LOT of planning and dedication, and I don't think Franklin administrators, teachers, students, board, and parents are up to the challenge.
From what I remember about FR Prom was that the event itself was boring and TOO costly. I was so jealous to hear of friends from other schools talk about how great their prom (AND after-prom) was. Prom CAN BE more than just dinner and dancing - but the FR Prom doesn't reflect that. I remember thinking - well no wonder all of these kids drink after the prom, it was so boring they need to do something to have a little fun!
Maybe this is harsh, but it's true. I'd like to hear some thoughts from actual students, but I don't know if there are many on this site. Did you enjoy the FR prom? Why or why not? How could it be better? Would you like an After-Prom? Do you think the main focus of prom is on the drinking done afterwards?
After-Proms work great at schools that are innovative and creative. FR is not. FR likes things to be quick and easy, with minimal effort and cost. This is fine - but don't expect great things to come from that attitude. Don't expect to get support for an After-Prom when the Actual-Prom is dull and unexciting. When I went to prom at FR, I would NOT have wanted to go to an After-Prom. Not because I don't like the idea of an After-Prom, but because I knew it would be boring and worthless.
I was trying to post a comment to the poll itself - but it kept giving me a error message. Trying one more time - as a reply to your post. Just to see if I can get it to work.

First of all I'm not sure that teens locked up in one place in the middle of the night is a good idea. Doubt that you could get me to change my mind about that - so I could not pick that option as my vote.
As a parent of a teenage girl I would not be in favor of a MANDATORY after-Prom. If I let my daughter go to the Prom when she is old enough - I would want her to be coming home after the dance - not staying out even longer.
It is also my opinion that this will not stop the kids who want to and do drink alcohol. It just may stop them from doing it during the period of time when they are at the After-Prom.
Teens being locked up in one place in the middle of the night may or may not be a good idea. It would work if the students were mature enough to handle it, and as 16, 17, and 18 year old kids, i would sure hope that they are. Sadly though, Murrysville parents have failed in creating mature young adults, therefore an after prom at Franklin Regional would not work out. As a student, for me school dances are somewhat boring, and the after parties almost always consist of drinking like crazy leading to underages and DUIs. An after prom could very well dissolve the drinking aspect of the night. And to comment on Conversation Club's comment about her daughter, no offense, but unless your daughter is socially inept, she's going to be out at an after party after the dance if there's no after prom, so regardless she'll be out late.
Alright conclusion time- After prom to me may be decent, and would work for a better school district. But the "young adults" of Franklin Regional are way to immature and destructive to enjoy one. You don't know what your kids do parents, I'm with them everyday in class and most of them are terrible...Sorry no after prom!
Kids that grow up in Murrysville love to drink. They'll drink wheather it's prom or it isn't. They'll just end up sneaking booze into the high school gym if they tried to enforce a mandatory after-prom.
Salute!
Honestly booze is pretty damn great. Your so right about them sneaking it in. I mean honestly you'd have to be drunk to reasonably be able to put up with that shit hole for more than 10 minutes.
